THE COUNTY

They say the experience of planning a trip is almost as good as taking the trip itself.  While we are not quite convinced of that, we certainly have enjoyed starting our research for our summer travel series.

Given that the world is just slowly opening up – we thought we would stick a little closer to home for this first trip recommendation…..A road trip to Prince Edward County! Located just two hours from Toronto a trip to “The County” is a must this summer.

“Chardonnays from Prince Edward Country are like Chablis discovering a long lost cousin….”
– Matt Kramer, Internationally Acclaimed Author and Wine Critic.

Prince Edward County is located on the shores of Lake Ontario amidst rolling acres of vineyards, conservation areas and sandy beaches. It’s a fabulous spot for a romantic getaway or a great destination for a long overdue girls trip! From the white sandy beaches to the hip culinary scene – you and your crew are all set.

For those interested in a little more active weekend, try a Sip and Cycle Wine Tour from The County Wine Tours. This guided ride includes a tour of the Millennium Trail with stops at 4 different wineries in the region.

If cycling is not for you, All Trails has curated a long list of trails to explore around “The County” including in and around Sandbanks or Ferris Provincial Parks. Once you have all your “steps” in head to Picton’sMain Street to peruse the many galleries and boutiques.

Where to Stay:

THE DRAKE DEVONSHIRE

If you are looking to getaway this summer – try booking The Drake Devonshire. A gem of The County – with its customized suites.

Here is what Conde Nast Traveller had to say about The Drake:
Home to one of the most astoundingly beautiful and romantic hotel rooms around the world

WANDER – THE RESORT

If you are really planning ahead….another top spot WF recommends is from Travel and Leisure “It” list – Wander the resort. The resort features a collection of 10 – 2 bedroom glass and timber cottages on the norther shore of West Lake.

The cabins have the traditional cottage feel with an incredibly chic aesthetic created by designer Shannon Hunter.

Where to Browse and Shop:

Some of our favorite spots include Andrew Csafordi Studio Gallery, Armstrong Glassworks or The Local Store – PEC.
