THE WINTER MUST HAVES THAT YOUR CLOSET NEEDS NOW!

COVID-19 has changed every aspect of our lives, including how we dress. With the colder weather moving in, WF connects with fashion stylist Mariangela D’Agostino of luxury retailer Holt Renfrew for a guide on chic alternatives to keep us on trend and comfortable this season.

Knits: One of the hottest trends we are seeing this winter is the knit dress. With COVID-19 extending outdoor dining into the cold weather, it’s the perfect look. Some of my favorites include this beautiful chocolate knit with gold hardware down the front by Bottega Veneta. I also adore the way Victoria Beckham put a twist on a cream knit this season with an A-line skirt, which I would pair with rich chocolate brown boots. Joie also came out with a classic sleeveless knit dress, easily accented with a blazer or cropped leather jacket.

Leather on leather: It’s definitely huge this season! Leather pants have been a staple trend for quite some time, but now you can take it a step further by adding a leather top to complete the look. Alexander Wang’s shirt version is nicely tapered at the waist for an alluring feminine silhouette. Ganni also created a version of this relaxed button down with a delicate detailed sleeve. But one of my favorites this season is definitely Frame’s stunning cognac leather shirt with soft details.

Shoe Trend Alert: The Lug Sole Boot! We’ve seen them everywhere. Runways to celebrities to fashion blogger’s feeds, this is a must have purchase you won’t regret. The most coveted boot this season is without question Bottega Veneta’s Chelsea boot, which is available in other color options. Have it all but still want to add something on trend? Try Prada’s amazing lace up shoe for an alternative look or if you’re looking for some height, their heeled boots are to die for. Pair these with a blazer, jeans or your favorite dress. It’s a look, a mood, a vibe.

The Shacket: A shirt and jacket hybrid that will carry you from fall into winter into spring. It is the perfect layering piece - a trend that we just can’t get enough of. We’re seeing styles in wool and leather, like Stella McCartney’s version in a beautiful heather grey, with snap buttons and slits on the side.

The Puffer: The puffer trend is back and it’s bigger than ever! Stylish and functional with lots of amazing bright colours, monogram prints, and mixed media as seen on the Moncler Rick Owens collaboration or Sacai’s cool denim puffer. Save the Duck is also a Canadian brand to look out for with its bright colours and 100% vegan jackets.

All About Plaid: The plaid-checkered combination is a trend we’re seeing a lot of. From blazers to dresses and even the full look. A personal favorite of mine right now is this two-piece Victoria Beckham look, that can be worn separately or together. Either way, you’ll be on trend this season.

Puffy Bags: Last but not least, is the ultimate accessory of the season to complement all these trends - the puffy purse! From Bottega Veneta to the hot new brand Thermoire - which is made in Italy from 100% recycled material and vegan leather – we’re seeing the puffy purse everywhere!
